Chilliwack run to support conservation

After holding its first outing last year, the Chilliwack River Salmon Run will be returning this September, with the goal of raising money to keep local waterways clean and healthy.

Runners can choose between 5- and 10-kilometre distances, with the top 15 finishers in each categories receiving recognition in the form of a trophy or medal. Children 12 or under receive free registration and can enter the main run or the 200-metre Trout Trot. All proceeds from the Salmon Run will go towards the WaterWealth Project, which aims to protect the Chilliwack River and other local waterways through education and local initiatives. Participants will receive a race bib and snacks, as well as entry into a raffle for prizes supplied by sponsors.

The start line will feature an opening ceremony with numerous speakers and a “eco-market” with 20 local vendors offering environmentally-friendly products, as well as non-profit organizations providing education. Organizations at events such as this often use brochure printing and colourful Signs to provide a quick synopsis of their purpose and ways individuals can contribute. Announced vendors and exhibitors include The Knotweed Lab, Cathy Terepocki Ceramics, and the Watershed Watch Salmon Society. There will also be a post-race barbecue for all to enjoy.

The 2023 Chilliwack River Salmon Run will take place on Saturday, September 23 at Vedder Park. It will welcome people from 9:00 am, with the raffle rounding out the day at 3:00 pm.
