For a family in Chilliwack, New Year’s Day will now have an additional reason to always be extra special.
Chloe Durlene was born at 12:52am on New Year’s Day, which makes her the first baby of the New Year for the city and only the second newborn of 2015 for the entire province of British Columbia.
Coming into the world at the Chilliwack General Hospital a few days later than expected, Chloe weighed in at seven pounds seven ounces. According to the Chilliwack Times, her mother, Marina Arnusch, said the labour was relatively short and her new little daughter was born “happy and healthy”. She is her grandparents’ first granddaughter after seven boys, and she’s got two older brothers, Eliot and Emerson.
The very first baby of 2015 in the province was born at Langley’s Peace Arch Hospital.
It is common for new mothers and babies to be visited by a representative of local firms, such as the Welcome Wagon, which bring greetings and best wishes from the town’s mayor and the Chamber of Commerce, among other organizations, as well as promotional offers from local shops.
