What's Happening in Chilliwack, BC…

Chilliwack course to teach basics of wildfire suppression

Wildfires are a part of life in certain parts of BC, but an upcoming Chilliwack course will teach the basics of suppressing these natural disasters.

The course, which is scheduled to run for two days, will take place in the Tzeachten Community Centre Boardroom. Pre-registration is required, and the fee, which is $267.74, can be paid for online – this includes the textbook and any other learning supplies the students need.

The learners will discuss the organizational structure that exists in the province for dealing with wildfires, and the equipment and procedures it follows are on the agenda as well. Certificates will be presented to those who complete the training, and these sorts of items can be designed by local stationery printers.

The classes will begin at 8:30am on both days, and the registrants are asked to bring work gloves, a hard hat, a high visibility coat or vest, a notebook, pen and appropriate clothing for the task at hand. The instruction will be supplied by Murray W. Smith, who is a Registered Professional Forester, as well as a certified instructor recognized by the British Columbia Fire Service.

The S100 Basic Fire Suppression & Safety Training course will begin on May 6th. Anyone who would like to register is invited to do so now, and this can be completed by visiting its online listing.
