What's Happening in Chilliwack, BC…

$35 Million Expansion to Chilliwack General Hospital

Chilliwack General Hospital has recently completed a $35 million expansion to its facilities. The medical facility, which was built in 1911, recently completed the overhaul to its services and now boasts a modern laboratory and emergency room with cutting edge equipment. Many departments received renovations, including an education room, the cardiopulmonary clinic, ambulatory care, medical daycare and a unit for paediatric care. These units are now laid out more efficiently and are simpler for patients to locate. Stationary printers in Chilliwack will have been on hand to produce promotional materials for the new facilities, including posters and flyers to inform patients of what the hospital can now offer them.

Recently, many took a tour of CGH to see what the expansion looks like. Among those onlookers were officials from the health care system, fundraisers, politicians as well as those from the general public. They agreed that the renovations have improved the hospital a great deal and that it is a much friendlier environment now.

Of the money need to complete the renovation, $30 million came from the hospital board in the region. The remaining $5 million came from fundraising done by the Fraser Valley Hospital Foundation.

Chilliwack MLA John Les said:

“This is just a wonderful day for Chilliwack and potential patients in Chilliwack. There’s a real focus on ambulatory care which is a way of looking after people today that is quite different from looking after people in the past.”

Local First Nations artwork was commissioned and much of the artwork is displayed in the emergency room.
