What's Happening in Burnaby, BC…

Thanks to the help of a Simon Fraser University student, a wayward ball python that was found on Burnaby Mountain has found its way home.

Marrisa Bowsfield found the reptile resting in the sun on a trail and, concerned for its safety, she carefully carried it back to the university where she lives. She noted that even though some might be afraid of such a creature, she was happy to pick it up.

The snake appeared to be in good health, and she used a hot water bottle to keep it warm while she had it in her care. She had plans to take it to the Surrey Urban Safari Rescue Society, where it can be looked after in the long term.

The ball python is a nonvenomous snake that is small in size and has a shy dispostion. The local SPCA noted that the species is not native to the area and concluded that it was probably a pet that someone released when they no longer wanted it. In order to help prevent this from happening, brochure printers can create leaflets and other materials that let the public know more about these types of pets, how to care for them, and what to do should they become too difficult to handle.

This is the second time that Ms. Bowsfield has found a python, having done the same thing just a few weeks before.
