Many people enjoy cottage cheese, but may not know they can make it in their own home kitchen, and a Burnaby workshop will soon walk its attendees through the process.
Burnaby Village Museum provides the public with various learning opportunities, and it will be running a Cottage Cheese Making Workshop in mid-November. Attendance is limited to those age 16 and up, and the session will be friendly to the beginner cheesemaker.
The students will find out how to make the cottage cheese from scratch, and they will be working in small groups. Everyone will heat, curdle and then strain their mixture, and they will walk away with a batch of cottage cheese to enjoy and share. Tips for adjusting the texture and acidity will be reviewed, and there will be an opportunity for the learners to do some taste testing. Everyone should bring a container to take their cheese home in.
Culinary classes can be a fun way for the attendees to pick up some new skills they can use in their own home kitchen. Organizers may choose to order recipe cards for the dish being prepared from a brochure printing company, which can be laminated so they can easily be wiped clean in case of spills or splashes.
This introduction to the art and science behind cottage cheese will be held on November 19th. Tickets must be reserved in advance, and this can be done through the City of Burnaby website.
