A donation has made it possible for Burnaby Hospital to offer additional services to its patients.
A gift of $600,000 was made to the institution by the Burnaby Hospital Foundation. The plans are for this to be used to construct a second endoscopy suite to its list of facilities it can offer to those who go there to seek medical help, such as cancer detection. A printer can produce Signs and other materials for the new suite.
An endoscope can be used to explore areas in the body, such as the intestines or stomach, for growths that could possibly be cancerous. It can also take a sample to be tested. This can be especially useful in determining if someone has colorectal cancer, and according to Mark Dickeson, who is an endoscopist and surgeon, the demand for this has risen sharply.
Dr. Dickeson was part of a group of physicians who felt that an improvement was needed at the hospital, as this would shorten wait times for the procedure. They took their concerns to Fraser Health, and it increased the resources it allocated for this purpose.
Dr. Dickeson further went on to say that the dedicated endoscopy suite that is being built with the funding from the Burnaby Hospital Foundation, will make the hospital equal to others of its kind in the rest of Fraser Health.Get a Free Quote for Signs
