Burnaby’s public libraries are playing host to two new exhibits on loan from the Burnaby Art Gallery.
The McGill branch, located at 4595 Albert Street, will be showing a Laura Widmer’s Face to Face. She is a printmaker who has been lauded for her works, and has earned the recognition of the Open Studio National Printmaking Awards.
She received the first place prize for her piece entitled ‘One of the Daves I Know’ in the 2010 competition. This is one of her works that will be on display for the public to see, as is her piece named ‘Pearls’, which earned an honorable mention last year.
A printing company can produce informational Brochures that can be given to visitors to the exhibit, so they can learn even more about the work and the artists.
The Bob Prittie branch, which is at 6100 Willingdon Avenue, will be presenting ‘People With Cameras’, which will showcase a sample of photographs found in the archives for the city of Burnaby.
The displays will show how an increasing number of people took up photography as a hobby, with an emphasis on post-1900 periods, when the Kodak ‘Brownie’ camera was introduced to the public, which allowed this leisure activity to become much more accessible and affordable for ordinary people.
