Burnaby workshop to help build safer work spaces

A Burnaby workshop will be offering an introduction to occupational health and safety from a committee perspective, and it is open to local members of the Hospital Employees Union (HEU).

This training opportunity is intended for HEU members who serve on joint occupational health and safety (JOSH) committees, and can help them to be more effective in their position. The participants will learn from both the instructor and also one another, as sharing best practices will be encouraged.

The workshops will provide an introduction to the role of JOSH committee members, as well as how they can effectively resolve health and safety issues. It will include a detailed review of both the OH&S Regulations and the Workers Compensation Act, and the goal is for each learner to walk away with an enhanced knowledge of how to address health and safety issues in their workplace, and also encourage others to do the same.

Applications are currently being accepted for this training opportunity, and the location will be released to the registrants at a later date. Learning materials can help the participants in this sort of event to make the most of the experience, and Stationery printers can be counted on to supply them.

The HEU Introduction to OH&S workshop has been rescheduled to October 20 and 21, and the deadline to apply is September 9. A copy of the application form as well as additional details can be found on the HEU website.
