Burnaby training to focus on role of JOHS committee membership

The Hospital Employees Union (HEU) offers a variety of continuing education opportunities to its membership, and one of these will be a Burnaby workshop that will provide an introduction to Occupational Health and Safety.

This two-day workshop will be an introduction to the role taken on by members of Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) committees. It will be an interactive experience, and everyone who takes part will be invited to join the conversation.

The topics up for discussion include the role, function and structure of a JOHS committee and how safety and health issues can be resolved in the workplace. Participants will review the contents of the OH&S Regulation and Workers Compensation Act, and how organizational structures can be set up so that employee welfare is a priority. Along with this, participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences, and various sorts of work environments will be included.

This type of workshop can help to build workplaces that are as safe as possible, and Print shops can help. They can craft training manuals, certificates of competition and even promotional Pens so everyone who takes part can take any notes they wish.

The Burnaby session of the HEU Occupational Health and Safety Workshop will be held on October 20th and 21st. The application deadline is September 9th.
