Burnaby to celebrate local waterways

World Rivers Day is a celebration held each September and Burnaby will be joining other communities all over the world in marking the occasion.

Burnaby Village Museum and Carousel will be hosting a day filled with riparian-themed activities, and all ages are encouraged to participate. Attendees will discover what makes rivers so important, as well as what they can do to help make sure local waterways are clean and healthy.

The museum will have a variety of displays that will give guests an opportunity to learn more about rivers, and there will be hands on activities and entertainment. Rides on the carousel will be available for $2.65 each. Print shops can produce large sized products like Posters and Banners for this sort of event, and these can help to spread the word about an organization’s event and message to the local community.

Along with the museum’s World Rivers Day activities, the Lower Mainland Green Team has planned a community service project. It will see volunteers remove invasive plants from Deer Lake Brook. This waterway runs through the grounds of the museum, and the work will show how the public can get involved in protecting the local environment.

Burnaby will be marking this salute to rivers on September 22nd and it will remain open to the public from 11am until 4:30pm.
