What's Happening in Burnaby, BC…

Burnaby project to tackle invasive plants

Invasive plants can be a problem for a variety of reasons, and a Burnaby hands on project will get to the "root” of the problem.

The green spaces around Burnaby Lake Park's Nature House are set to get some attention when a group of volunteers remove a variety of invasive plants - and as many hands make light work, a call has gone out for extra assistance. There is enough space for 15 participants, and both new and returning attendees are welcome.

When they arrive for the activity, the registrants are asked to look for the signage that will be posted, and it was explained in the event listing online that the site will also be accessible to those who require a mobility device.

It's highly recommended that everyone brings along a water bottle, gloves, and small pruners, and if the weather is especially poor, the event may need to be cancelled and rescheduled.

A volunteer driven community service project gives local residents an opportunity to be part of making their hometown a great place to live. Signage, certificates of appreciation and promotional products to present to those who lend a hand with an activity can be ordered from a local print professional.

This invasive plant removal project is scheduled for Sunday, February 25. Everyone who registers is asked to arrive at 4519 Piper Avenue for 11:00am.
