Many community colleges offer art classes, as do many community centers, and these help to provide training in an area into which some schools are investing less. The city of Burnaby, in addition to these types of classes, also offers free monthly Art on the Spot for anyone who is interested. Printing companies in the Burnaby area often help provide the organizers with products such as Booklets and Brochures to let the community know about the upcoming events and to help them plan their schedules.
Art on the Spot takes place at the Shadbolt Centre for the Performing Arts one Saturday a month. It provides free art demonstrations, talks, performances, and workshops to both adults and children. The next Art on the Spot event will take place on January 21 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm and will be a creative way to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Those who attend will learn how to use Chinese brushes, ink, and paint, and will be able to create an artwork to take home with them. It will be one of several events taking place in Burnaby to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year, which begins on February 10, 2013 – this being the start of the Chinese Year of the Snake.
