New mental health centre breaks ground in Abbotsford

Construction of a mental health facility has begun in Abbotsford, with a special event marking its launch.

A ground-breaking ceremony for the new 50-bed facility recently took place at 33134 Marshal Road, which is located near the Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

The mayor was among those who came out to take part, and he noted that the project is very important to the community.

Mayor Braun remarked that the new building will allow those who need mental health care to receive it in their own community, where they will be able to have the direct support from their friends and family.

A printing company can produce Brochures and other materials that will let them know what to expect while their loved on is spending time there.

The structure will have space for 30 licensed beds, and will replace the former unit that closed in 2013. It will have nursing and other Forms of medical care, as well as meals, medication, and therapies. In addition to these, it will have spaces for 20 residents in an assisted living setup who need less support.

Management for the site will be provided by the MPA Society, which currently maintains many different facilities across the Lower Mainland. The executive director for the society said that it is pleased to be taking on this new responsibility.
