Outdoor symphony returns to Abbotsford

A popular summer event, Symphony in the Park will be back in Abbotsford this August, offering a free concert that pulls out all the stops.

The show will feature a 40-piece live orchestra conducted by Calvin Dyck, a notable concert violinist, conductor and Artistic Director of the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra. The band will be playing famous songs ranging from the classical music canon to the scores of modern hit films. Last year’s programme included selections from Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, the Superman March, and Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto.

The concert will also feature a festival atmosphere, with food trucks providing refreshments. Past editions have also seen music accompanied by dancers from the Fraser Valley Accompany of Dance. Visitors are invited to bring their own lawn chair or blanket to spread out in the park area.

The Outdoor Symphony uses an “admission by donation” system, where visitors can pay what they can and contribute to future editions of the events as well as others hosted by the Songs Strings and Steps company. Limited parking will be available at MSA Arena and Abby Middle School. Outdoor concerts are a popular summer attraction and often use poster printing and social media to attract local listeners.

The 2026 edition of Symphony in the Park will take place on the evening of August 14 at Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford.
