Classical dynasty to perform in Abbotsford

Part of a prolific family of musicians, pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason will be performing in Abbotsford this February, including a number of time-tested classical pieces.

Jeneba is one of seven musicians from the British Kanneh-Mason family, and has performed at the BBC Proms and won numerous prizes in Europe. In Abbotsford, she will be performing a number of classical pieces that also appeared on her first album Fantasie. These include Bach’s Partita No. 5, Beethoven’s Sonata No. 17 or “Tempest”, and Chopin’s Ballades No. 3 and 4.

Kanneh-Mason will also highlight pieces from less established composers like Price and Still. Classical concerts like this often feature, using flyer printing and speeches to provide educational and explanatory context for the pieces, both historic and contemporary. Kanneh-Mason will also be leading a Masterclass for piano students the following afternoon, in conjunction with local teachers.

The performance is part of the Valley Concert Society’s 43rd season. The series has brought acclaimed musicians from around the world to Abbotsford, including two of Jeneba’s siblings in cellist Sheku and fellow pianist Isata in their North American debuts. The season will continue with performances from Canadian soprano singer Suzie Le Blanc and cellist duo Bryan and Silvie Cheng in March and April.

Jeneba Kanneh-Mason will perform at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium in Abbotsford on the evening of February 20, 2026.
