The fundraiser encourages visitors to wear their best Hawaiian or otherwise colourful shirt. The evening will include a three-course gourmet meal with live entertainment provided. There will also be dancing and an auction and raffle for items donated from local businesses and sponsors. Gala events like this often use banner printing and speeches to recognize the contributions of sponsors and supporting organizations.
The Hawaiian Shirt Gala was created to honour the memory of Brook Morrison, who was known for holding similar parties among the community and struggled with mental health. The occasion has since proved to be a hit, with advertising stating:
“Building on the success of previous years, this year's gala is sure to be an exceptional night of fun, philanthropy, and heartfelt connection. Together, we can help break the stigma surrounding mental health.”
Proceeds will go towards the Be Morr Society, which funds counselling and other services to promote mental health in the Abbotsford area and across Canada. Past editions of the gala have helped support over 500 individuals. Discount hotel rates will be available for guests looking to stay the night after the gala.
The 2026 Hawaiian Shirt Gala will be hosted at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre in Abbotsford on September 26.
