Good news for Abbotsford sports fans

Fans of the Abbotsford Heat hockey team will now have another reason to get out and support the players on their home ice.

The city has decided to make it easier for people to attend games and other events at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sport Center.

A group of business students at the University of the Fraser Valley did some research as part of their class work, and they found that the price of parking was keeping some people from attending events at the center. The city felt that lowering the cost would encourage people to come out.

There is also good news for those who use the parking lots at the nearby UFV campus. The university has decided that they will also reduce the cost of parking by 50% when there is a game or other function going on.

Though the lowered rates will initially result in a small decrease in revenue, it is felt that the higher number of fans who can afford now to bring their vehicle will soon make up the difference may even lead to an increase in the overall money being taken in by both the city and the university. The change takes place immediately.

Charging for parking is one way a city can raise funds to help pay for the services they provide, but it is important to find a balance between the rates charged and what people can reasonably afford. Print companies can produce tickets and monthly parking passes that are convenient to use and provide a savings to the public.
