Abbotsford workshop to offer pruning practice

Savvy gardeners know that pruning is an essential skill for many home horticulturalists, and an upcoming Abbotsford workshop will help to demystify the process for both newbie and experienced green thumbs alike.

A hands-on pruning class with a run time of six hours has been planned for the community by the UFV Trades and Technology Department. It will teach both the basics and some advanced methods, and the registration fee is $119.

During the class, the participants will learn when and how to prune different species of trees and shrubs. There will be a discussion of how this provides benefits such as increased fruit and flower production as well as training a plant to grow in a desired form. The listing explained that as much of the activity will take place outdoors, everyone is reminded to dress for the weather, and they are also asked to bring along a pair of loppers, secateurs or another style of hand held pruners.

Workshop facilitators often choose to hand out additional learning materials during a continuing education event. These can be prepared by area Stationery printers along with horticultural Calendars that indicate when various gardening chores should be done.

This opportunity to get some hands on pruning practice will be held on October 1st on King Road in Abbotsford. Anyone who would like to sign up is asked to call 604.854.4501.
