After holding its first edition last year, the Care for Women Walk/Run will be returning to Abbotsford this October, aiming to raise money for a good cause.
The event will take the form of a walk or run across a 4.4 kilometre distance, made up of two loops around Abbotsford’s Mill Lake. The run will be a noncompetitive event with each participant taking the distance at their own pace. Children 12 and under can register for free.
The run will begin and end at a festival area with children’s activities like balloon sculpting, face painting and a bouncy castle, as well as food trucks, including Banter Ice Cream. Attendees can enter to win prizes including Abbotsford Canucks tickets, a wine tasting experience and gift cards to local stores and restaurants.
The purpose of the run is to support Care for Women, a Fraser Valley area organization that supports women dealing with physical and mental health challenges in the postpartum period. Donors can register individually or as part of a team to compare themselves against others on a leader board. Fundraising events like this often use methods like speeches or poster printing to help inform people about the charitable cause. This year’s run aims to top the first edition by raising $60,000.
The 2025 Care for Women Walk/Run will take place at Mills Lake in Abbotsford on the morning of October 18.
