The Gallery 7 Theatre will be hosting a miniature comedy festival in Abbotsford this October, with the arts of stand-up and improv featured on back-to-back nights.
The events will begin with Improv Night, hosted by Very Very Improv, with performers creating scenes and jokes spontaneously based on input from the audience. The following night will feature a line-up of standup comedians to be announced, ranging from national names to emerging local talent, and be hosted by master of ceremonies Cliff Prang. Both shows will aim to be family friendly, with clean language, while still presenting a sharp sense of humour. Each show will run for approximately 90 minutes, with a 20-minute intermission.
In addition to featuring local comics, the festival is designed to raise funds and awareness for Gallery 7’s upcoming theatrical season. The 2024-25 period will see the troupe stage full productions of Prince Caspian, based on the Chronicles of Narnia Books; holiday comedy Parfumerie; and the stage adaptation of classic film Footloose.
The theatre recently received 16 nominations for its productions at the Cleo Awards for stage productions in the Fraser Valley. Comedy events like this often use methods like poster printing and podcast appearances to help attract attendees.
The 2024 G7 Comedy Night will take place at the Gallery 7 Theatre in Abbotsford on October 18 and 19.
