Charitable organization MyCityCare will be holding its “Shop of Wonders” donation drive again this month, looking to provide toys to families in need.
The drive gathers toys from donors throughout Southern Alberta and creates a physical “shop” that parents in need can visit to pick out gifts. Last year’s effort benefitted around 900 children from the Lethbridge area, a number that is projected to increase this year.
Toys aimed at ages 11-15 and children aged two and under are particularly in demand. The charity also accepts cash donations, which will be converted into toys and gifts that the shop is short on. Donors can also select a holiday food package to provide a Christmas dinner to an individual or family.
The toy drive is a part of MyCityCare’s larger efforts to deliver a holiday experience to families or individuals that may not be able to celebrate otherwise. Efforts like this typically depend on volunteers for everything from promotional flyer printing to delivering the final packages. The coronavirus pandemic has made such efforts more difficult, but also more vital.
Shop of Wonders will be accepting donations throughout the early part of December at drop-off locations around Lethbridge, Taber, Claresholm and Okotoks, including Lawn & Snow Bros and El Greco Cuisine. Those interested in receiving toys or financial support are encouraged to contact MyCityCare.
