Lethbridge walk raises money for cystic fibrosis

Almost 150 residents of Lethbridge, Alberta took part in a nationwide walk in order to raise funds to combat cystic fibrosis last week.

It was part of this year’s edition of the annual Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History, an event organized by Cystic Fibrosis Canada to raise awareness and money. It was the 15th year that the walk was held in Lethbridge, organized by the city’s Kinsmen Club. The fraternal organization has been working with CF Canada since 1963, and boasts of raising $45m through all its chapters.

The walk covered a five-kilometre distance that ended in a celebratory area with barbecue, bouncy houses and music. Walkers could take the distance at whatever pace they wanted, including bringing pets along. Charitable events and challenges are a popular way to combine a day out in spring with a good cause. Such events often use Promotional Products, banner printing and social media to raise awareness and attract participants.

The event took place on Monday, May 27, and kicked off at Lethbridge’s Henderson Lake. Proceeds will go to scientific research towards a cure for cystic fibrosis, also known as CF. The disease is a genetic disorder which affects the lungs, liver, pancreas, intestine and kidneys. While a cure is still elusive, the work of groups like CF Canada has contributed to a dramatic increase in the life expectancy of people with cystic fibrosis.
