Lethbridge students help the homeless

Young people at the University of Lethbridge are undertaking a fundraising project that will not only raise money to help combat homelessness, but also give them a brief insight into what it is like to have to live on the streets.

The event, which is named ‘5 Days for the Homeless’, will see those who are taking part construct shelters using only cardboard and Tape in the bus loop area located near the Students’ Union building. They will not have access to technology, personal hygiene or even a warm bed, and the only meals they will get will be from food that is donated to them.

This event has been held for the past seven years, and has raised over $60,000 to help fight homelessness.

This year, the group that will be participating hopes to raise more than $10,000. Donations can be made either online or at the collection points that have been set up on tables around the university campus. The students will also be accepting donations themselves.

A banner printing firm can create Banners and other signage that can be used during the five days. These will let the public know what is going on and how they can do their part to help.

The organizers expressed their thanks to the businesses that have helped, including Save on Foods West, Rona, Candie Co Clothing, Hudsons Canadian Tap House, the University of Lethbridge Students’ Union, and the University of Lethbridge Bookstore.
