Lethbridge arcade goes virtual for charity

Lethbridge’s CTRL-V arcade will be working to raise money for a good cause this November with a special 24-hour marathon of virtual reality gaming.

The marathon event will be hosted across CTRL-V locations across Canada. Participants can play virtual reality games using the arcade’s regular roster of HTC Vive and Vive Pro 2 consoles, as well as having the chance to participate in special scheduled events. The technology involves a headset with visual and audio output designed to create a more immersive type of display. Due to the high price of the technology, special events and arcades such as CTRL-V have gained popularity as a way to try out virtual reality, often promoting themselves through tools like poster printing and social media advertising.

CTRL-V’s marathon is part of Extra Life, which helps fund treatments, equipment and research for pediatric illnesses through video game events around the world raising money for the Change Kids’ Health to Change the Future program. The initiative dates back to 2008 and has been embraced by the gaming community. CTRL-V has been involved since 2016 and is aiming to raise over $20,000 for charity this year. The Lethbridge location in particular is targeting a $2,500 goal, with the different locations competing against each other as teams.

The Lethbridge Extra Life VR marathon is scheduled for November 5 at CTRL-V.
