A new national report has prompted awareness and discussion on how to reduce drug and alcohol dependency and addition especially among First Nation’s peoples in Canada. A national report entitled Honouring Our Strengths: A Renewed Framework to Address Substance Abuse Issues Among First Nation’s Peoples in Canada has sparked discussion among over 400 delegates, who have met recently, to discuss Canadian attitudes towards alcohol, from pricing to taxation, abuse and treatment.
The discussion was first published by the Lethbridge Herald and added that among First Nation’s peoples, many noted that addiction issues were a main barrier to community wellness on reserves. This is a major consideration in National Awareness Week, which runs this week.
Efforts to curb drug and alcohol abuse can begin in targeted campaigning and respond to social realities of use, especially among binge drinking in the youth. One way that Print companies in the Lethbridge area and other communities among Canada could assist in raising addictions awareness is through investing in poster printings in public areas and building up a culture of health promotion especially in high risk areas.
Print companies can absolutely play a role in the awareness-raising process in a community, by offering printings that can reach many members of the target population with pertinent information about drugs and alcohol and treatment phone numbers and options. This could help assist in early intervention and encourage addressing substance abuse from a cultural rather than individual perspective.
National Addictions Awareness Week is every second week of November.
