Professional Bull Riding’s (PBR) Canada Cup series will make its return this August with an event in Lethbridge.
The Canadian Cup series is entering its sixth year, with a series of two-day events planned for across Alberta and Saskatchewan. The event will see both Canadian and international riders attempt to stay on wild bulls for eight seconds.
The results will contribute ranking points towards PBR standings, qualifying riders for the finals of the Canadian Cup in Edmonton in November, as well as international events. The bulls also have their own standings, meaning that as the riders move on, their rides will get tougher. Other stops on this year’s abbreviated Canadian tour include Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat, Calgary and Saskatoon.
Fans are expected to be in attendance for the Canada Cup kick-off under Alberta’s re-opening plan. Last year, Lethbridge hosted both the last event before the series was paused for the COVID-19 pandemic and the first after it resumed in summer 2020. The March event was won by Saskatchewan’s Dakota Buttar, who went on to win the Canada Championship. Lethbridge also hosted a double-header competition in July won by Brock Radford and Ty Ellis.
Bull riding and other rodeo-style events are popular attractions in Alberta, often promoted through colourful poster printing and local media.
The PBR Canada Cup will come to Lethbridge’s ENMAX Centre on August 27 and 28. The event will be broadcast through TSN and PBR’s Ride Pass streaming service.
