Alberta helps Lethbridge homeless

The province of Alberta has committed $2.4m to help the homeless in Lethbridge through providing outreach and support services funding for community organizations through its Housing First program. It hopes to make homelessness a thing of the past and help build the bridge for a better future, and local printing companies could play a role in the process of eradicating homelessness.

The commitment has been a 10-year plan to end homelessness, with an increase of $492,000 more than last year. Funding will go to Housing First programs, which will focus on helping homeless individuals to make the transition to permanent and safe housing, mental health support, life skills training, landlord-tenant partnerships, and addiction counseling. Seven Alberta cities, including Lethbridge, Edmonton, and Calgary, will also receive $5m in funding for local outreach programs, as well as local shelters, which have helped support 1,255 families find housing since its first year in March 2012. Funding has gone up 26% since last year and the Alberta government will also divert funds towards identifying the underlying causes of homelessness in order to set measurable goals and record program effectiveness.

Advertising opportunities will probably exist for local printing companies to support the homeless initiative by promoting the outreach programs and shelters. Over 6,000 people who were formerly homeless have so far benefitted from the Housing First Program. The 10-year initiative may involve promotions in Print through various billboard printing, flyer printing, or Brochures distributed in support centers about various housing programs available to the homeless.
