An aspect of raising a special needs child that can be difficult for parents to navigate is estate planning, and an upcoming Calgary workshop will seek to soften the whole process.
The information session, which is being hosted by Gordon VanderLeek, will cover a variety of topics that can help to give families of children with disabilities peace of mind. They will learn about estate planning, the rules covering Assured Income of the Severely Handicapped (AISH) rules, trust planning, the different Registered Disability Savings Plans and Disability Tax Credit, and support and maintenance claims against and estate for a dependent child. Presentation Folders filled with helpful information for those who take part can be created or use during events such as this.
VanderLeek founded VanderLeek Law, and for the past 28 years has been practicing law, with a major portion of his work being focused on will and estates.
Estate Planning for Special Needs Children will be held on November 23, running from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the VanderLeek Law Office at 200, 1940 9th Avenue SE in Calgary. A registration fee of $20 will be charged to each person who participates, which will be donated to a not-for-profit group.
