Calgary woman lends helping hand to the zoo

Last spring’s flooding caused extensive damage to the Calgary Zoo, but many of the city’s residents have stepped forward to help. One such person is local entrepreneur CoryAnn Struik.

Hearing about the devastation at the zoo, Struik turned her annual Stampede barbeque into a fundraiser, and there was such a positive reaction from her consultants and clients that she could not help but want to do more.

During the Christmas season, she campaigned to raise money to help replace enrichment toys that had been lost at the zoo. Again, the response was generous.

Struik decided that she could do even more, and the idea for a gala Valentine’s fundraiser was born. Her supporters were ready and willing to help.

The celebration will be held at the Ranchman’s club in just over a week’s time, and will feature several celebrity guests, such as former Flame’s captain Lanny McDonald, a former zoo conservation director, a professional auctioneer and a motivational speaker.

There will be a silent auction, live music provided by Dino Martinis and a local special effects artist will be on hand to create body art with an animal theme.

Several companies have made generous donations to the event. Civilized Adventures hasdonated a Galapagos cruise, while Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts has offered a weekend getaway.

A Print company can help to make an event like this even more of a success. They can provide printed Menus, Invitations, decorations and other promotional items in time for the February 8 gala.
