Calgary researchers to benefit from grant

A $25 million dollar grant has been given to the University of Calgary to ensure it can continue working on research into the prevention methods and causes of heart attacks and strokes.

The donation is part of the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s $300 million commitment to a network of hospitals and research centers across the country. Calgary’s University is one such institution.

The funds should last for more than 10 years, and will help to attract and retain top researches from around the world. The money will be distributed on a grant basis to those who apply for it, and these will be awarded based upon the merit of their projects. It is expected that these different campaigns will make a big impact on reducing coronary disease in the country.

The donation will also contribute towards collaborative efforts by different groups across the country. It is felt that this is one of the best ways for the money to make the greatest possible impact.

This is the first time that a funding agency has made a definite promise for such a large contribution to heart and stroke research.

Much of the money which has been allocated was obtained through the fundraising efforts of individuals and groups. Print companies were often used to produce promotional materials for these events.

With heart disease and strokes touching many lives in some way or another, people across the region are being encouraged to keep up with their efforts to raise money for this important cause.
