Calgary hosts Cops and Joggers

On Sunday, April 27th, runners from all over Calgary came out to take part in a fun afternoon while helping out some university students.

The Calgary Police Half Marathon has been taking place each spring for the past 39 years, and it always provides an opportunity for the police to engage with the local community on a personal level.

Over 1,500 runners and volunteers took part in the half marathon portion of the afternoon, while 600 ran the 5km race.

The theme for the day was ‘Cops and Joggers’, and some participants even came dressed in costume for the occasion.

One of the people who ran the 5km race was Constable Mark Smith. He really stood out, as he wore his entire Calgary Police Services uniform, including his body armor and fully-equipped belt. On his head, he wore an English police helmet, a souvenir from his days as an officer in Britain.

As he ran, he Tweeted and wore a ‘Go-Pro’ camera, so others could see the run from his perspective.
