Midland to present art open day

A day open to the community is taking place at a celebrated arts hub based in Midland this year.

Art aficionados in Midland can attend a special event in late spring. Dubbed the “Midland Junction Arts Centre Open Day”, it opens artist’s studios to the public, launches a new exhibition and presents an art award display. There will also be interactive art-focused activities for all ages to join.

The day will open “Colour Me Wonder”, an exhibition featuring playful pieces from illustrators and artists that use colour and imagination to create stories and build worlds. A family-friendly exhibit running into 2027, it celebrates the joy of childhood. Works featured include Sarah Toohey’s 2015 “Night Garden” in pencil.

Artists and illustrators often connect closely with specialist Print shops that can create high-resolution reproductions of their work.

Forest Forage, an environmental art project from local primary school students will also be showcased at the event. Visitors can view A4 artwork with visual impact focused on the theme of healthy ecosystems. Ric Burkitt, artist in residence will also be present on the day to discuss his creative process.

The Midland Junction Arts Centre Open Day will now be held on Sunday, November 29 from 11 am to 2.30 pm. The centre is located at 276 Great Eastern Highway in Midland, and the entrance can be found at Old School Lane.
