Seaford business looking to crack US market

A Seaford company is looking to expand into the American market with help from a grant from Frankston City Council.

The city council has awarded $60,000 shared between five local businesses that are looking to expand overseas or to develop a new product.

Among the recipients is Lisa’s Lacies, which has been given a $10,000 grant to expand its operations. The company which manufactures and sells lingerie and accessories for plus size women has been in business for 20 years, and hopes to expand its workforce and customer base by moving into the US market.

It will use the money to promote the brand in the US and could use catalogue printing to showcase its range as well as printing other Promotional Products like Brochures or a sales kit to be sent to potential stockists. The grant will also pay for the creation of samples and to arrange sales meetings.

The other four winners this year included ABM Combustion, who were awarded $10,000 in the Green Business category to develop a product that converts methane to carbon dioxide, reducing environmental impact, Barton Engineering, which is expanding to produce fishing reels and Vertical Matters, a technology company that helps businesses work in the cloud.

The final recipient was Southside Social in the Start-up category, which is using the grant money to fit out its new restaurant, which will offer a twist on burgers and beers.
