Hawthorn seniors treated to special movie festival

The annual Boroondara Seniors Film Festival will be held this coming October.

The festival showcases short films that have been produced by filmmakers over the age of 60, or that feature an older adult as its central character. The theme for this year’s festival is ‘stories that inspire, challenge and connect us’.

One of the films shown at this year’s screening in Hawthorn will be ‘The King Sun’, which explores the life of Australian artist John Olsen, and his reflections on the world now that he is in his 80s. Film festivals such as this often use brochure printing services to make patrons aware of festival highlights and film scheduling. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase at the cinema, and disability access is also available if required.

The Boroondara Senior Film Festival, first held in 2022, attracted over 1,000 community members at its debut. This year, it has been preceded by film making workshops covering video production on iPhones, storytelling and animation.

‘The King Sun’ will be screened on Wednesday 11th October at 11:30am at Lido Cinemas, located at 675 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn. Tickets are free, but it is essential to book in advance. Although the event is specifically catered to adults over 60, people of any age can attend. The venue is accessible by train and tram, as parking is available in the surrounding streets.
