Hawthorn aiming to create leaders of the future

Swinburne University of Technology will hold its Swinburne Innovation Challenge at the university’s Hawthorn campus in September.

The program runs for eight weeks and is aimed at high school students from years 10 – 12. Students will select a UN Sustainable Development Goal challenge and then use their knowledge and skills to create a solution to the challenge in collaboration with teachers and leaders in the various disciplines. Students will be able to choose challenges specific to their areas of interest, such as Legal Studies, Physical Education, Applied Computing and Media. As part of the program, students will have the opportunity to spend half a day at the university’s Hawthorn campus, where they will have access to laboratories and resources. Flyer printing is a promotional technique which is commonly used to advertise programs like this in local high schools.

At the end of the eight-week program, students will have the opportunity to present their solutions to a panel via a video and will be awarded prizes.

Swinburne University of Technology was founded in 1908 and has three campuses in Australia – in Hawthorn, Croydon and Wantirna – as well as a campus in Sarawak, Malaysia. It currently holds a place in the top 1% of universities in the world.

The Swinburne Innovation Challenge will be held on Wednesday, September 13 from 12:30pm until 4pm at the Hawthorn Campus on John Street. Entry to the event is free.
