Work underway on new Epping school

Families in the Epping area will have more choice for education in the coming years, with a new primary school being constructed.

The school in Epping North is one of a series of new schools that will be built under a public-private partnership scheme worth $291m.

Under the scheme, private backers and public agencies are working together to build 15 schools on 12 sites across Victoria. The initiative is being led by the Victorian State Government and will also include community facilities.

Under the PPP concept, the construction and ongoing maintenance is funded from the private sector, while responsibility for running the school will be retained by the government.

Work at the Epping site began this month and the development will also include an indoor sports hall and oval for public use, space for community activities and a childcare centre that will be run by the local YMCA.

Regular community briefings will be held about the project, and the council could also use flyer printing to keep the local community up to date on the progress of the build, and when the school will be open for enrolments.

The schools are being built in the state’s fastest growing areas, and include primary and secondary facilities.

The first eight schools are set to open in Term 1 of 2017, with the second group to follow in 2018.
