The 5th State of Australian Cities National Conference will take place in Melbourne from November 29-December 2. The conference will be held at the University of Melbourne, Parkville Campus. This biennial forum has a mission to “share scholarship directed at the complex and multi-dimensional issues facing us as an urban nation.”
The conference, which is hosted by the Australian Sustainable Cities and Regions Network (ASCRN), is organized by several universities in Australia. The cost for the full conference is $500 ($250 for students), $250 for one day and $100 for PhD half-day.
Local businesses, including those in nearby Epping who sponsor the can have an exhibition table. They can also arrange for flyer printing services to provide them with an informational sheet which for $740 will be inserted into the satchel that every delegate to the conference receives at registration.
It is estimated that 80% of all Australians live in cities so this is a timely and important conference. The keynote speakers will be Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Transportation, Andrew Tongue, Secretary of the Department of Planning and Community Development, Associate Professor Carolyn Whitzman, of the Urban Planning department and Glyn Davis, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne. After these speeches the conference divides into 7 different streams such as infrastructure, environment, social and economic. A plenary panel will discuss the topic How Can We Create Cities that Lessen Socio-spatial Disparities. In addition to the speeches and seminars, there will also be a social civic reception and a conference dinner.
