It is time to celebrate the arrival of spring in Epping with the annual Into the Light Festival taking place later this month.
The event was first held in 2011 to rebuild community spirit after the devastating bushfires of 2009 and was organised by artists from Whittlesea and the Kinglake Ranges.
Now the festival has developed to become a way of highlighting art from around the region, including that of local primary school children and amateur painters. The festival will include indigenous games, live music and entertainment.
As part of the celebrations, a number of decorated paper lanterns will be lit and paraded through the area at dusk. Anyone who wants to decorate a lantern can have a go at making one at the festival. There are also two workshops being held at the Whittlesea Showgrounds prior to the festival to give people the chance to make and decorate a lantern.
The workshops will be run by local artists and take place on Thursday September 12 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm and on Saturday September 14 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm.
The festival should be a fun family event, and the lantern parade will no doubt make for some great photographs. A Print company can create high-quality prints of the images as a lasting reminder of the event.
The Into the Light festival takes place on Sunday September 15 at the Whittlesea Showgrounds, with the fun kicking off at 3:30pm. All activities are free.
