Finest animals in Victoria march to the Whittlesea Agricultural Show

The City of Whittlesea will be alive with the sound of animals great and small next month, with the Whittlesea Agricultural Show.

The show, held at the Whittlesea Showgrounds, is organised by the Whittlesea Agricultural Society and is in its 153rd year this year. It started in 1859 as a fair and has since grown to become one of Victoria’s premier shows, attracting 50,000 visitors. It has expanded over the years and now includes a number of competitions for best in show from cows to alpacas, dog shows, and showjumping.

The animal petting area and circus will entertain children, while grown-ups will enjoy the local produce and the agricultural wearable art displays that challenge people to create wearable art incorporating things found on the farm.

As well as just visiting the show, Epping residents might like to take part in some of the competitions being held during the weekend. Among the more unusual competitions is an authentic Australian dunny contest on Saturday, November 3, where entrants will be challenged to build a typical Australian toilet in just one hour. People can enter as an individual or a team of two.

Keen snappers might like to enter the photography competition, which has several categories including landscapes, people, buildings, and nature. A printing company can Print high quality Copies of any photographs for entry but entrants should make sure that they conform to the competition rules, which can be found on the Whittlesea Agricultural Society’s website. The closing date for entries is next Saturday, October 13.

This year’s show will run over the weekend of November 3 - 4.
