The community centre, named “Ganbu Gulinj” after the Wurundjeri word meaning “one mob”, brings to the location a three-room modern kindergarten to accommodate 99 children, a community room for the public and two suites dedicated to child and maternal health.
A $7 million project between Whittlesea City, Lendlease and the State Government, the new community facility in Macedon Parade is providing important additional services for an area of the city that is experiencing great growth, according to a Whittlesea Council spokesperson, who added:
"With 76 babies born into the City of Whittlesea every week, Council is boosting construction of community hubs like Ganbu Gulinj Community Centre to provide additional kindergarten places and maternal and child health services in the city’s fastest-growing suburbs."
Flyer printing campaigns are often enacted to advise residents of new facilities such as the community centre.
The spokesperson said the child and maternal health service provided by council is free of charge for local families with kids from birth through to school age. Its aim is to enhance the development, wellbeing and health of all who attend.
Enrolments for the new kindergarten are now being taken for Term 1 next year. Further information is available by contacting Kids First.
