Epping seniors to discover essential skill in workshop

Older residents of Epping and the surrounding areas may wish to join a free workshop in July that helps them guard against the increasingly sophisticated online scams they might encounter.

Much of the older population are now more familiar with the online world as they negotiate banking, shopping and emails from a computer, tablet or mobile phone. As the internet becomes more sophisticated, so do the ways in which accounts can become comprised. Learning to recognise unsolicited messages is one of the ways in which online users can become vigilant and take action, if required.

Scam Shield is an initiative that has been organised by Community Wheels Inc. It is one of a series of events available for older people, and the organisation’s aim is to reduce isolation, support independent living and generally promote wellbeing and community connection. Events are free and open to all residents of Australia.

Local printing services often produce promotional materials for communities to engage the interest of residents.

Scam Shield – Empowering Epping Seniors Against Online Scams will take place on Monday, 7 July, from 10.30 am until 12.30 pm. The venue will be the Epping Rotary Community Hall, which can be found at 3 Brigg Road in Epping. It is free to attend, but participants should register for a place. Transport and lunch will be provided.
