Council showcases local artists in annual exhibition

Artworks created by artists who work, live or are connected with Epping, Victoria and the City of Whittlesea will be celebrated in an annual art exhibition hosted by Council.

More than 100 artistic works will be showcased in the free exhibition, which will feature printmaking, sculpture, drawing, textiles, jewellery, ceramics and painting.

Sandy Caldow, who is Whittlesea’s Cultural Collection Coordinator, said the showcase of works will be diverse as it will include art pieces from professional artists and first time exhibitors, and all will be gaining the unique opportunity of sharing and displaying their work to a wider audience.

According to Ms. Caldow, the exhibition will feature works by artists aged from 8 to 90. Some contributors have disabilities, and one who is exhibiting for the first time in Australia only arrived in the country two years ago as a refugee from Iraq.

She said each artist presents a distinctly different approach to their artwork, which is a reflection of their vastly different cultures and generations and makes each contribution unique.

Ms. Caldow said this year’s free exhibition will be one of great interest for all who take the opportunity to attend.

The exhibition which is open to the public will be held from October 9 to 29 in the Great Hall in South Morang.

According to brochure printing special guided group tours through the gallery are conducted by appointment with morning tea served for those groups who have booked 48 hours in advance.
