Being able to cook simple nutritious meals can help maintain a balanced healthy diet, but not everyone has skills or confidence in the kitchen.
Now, Epping residents will have the chance to learn how to prepare quick dinners with the help of top trainers.
Next month, the City of Whittlesea is hosting the Jamie’s Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen, inspired by top British chef Jamie Oliver. As well as fronting popular television shows, Jamie’s recipe Books have been reproduced time and time again by printing companies.
One of his most popular ideas was the Ministry of Food, which taught novice cooks how to create dishes with basic ingredients. Now those skills are being spread further through a series of mobile food kitchens offering cooking classes.
The kitchen will be based in Lalor, but anyone from the Whittlesea area over the age of 12 can register as part of the Healthy Together Whittlesea scheme. There are classes seven days a week at various times and the course lasts for five weeks with students attending the same session each week. Each group has just 12 participants so there will be plenty of time for individual attention.
The courses begin on Monday April 8th. Each session costs $10 or $5 for concessions. The council may be able to help people take part in the training by providing childcare or covering transport costs.
Bookings are being taken now and can be made via the Ministry of Food website. For more information, contact the council’s Healthy Together Whittlesea staff.
