Boost for bike riding in Epping

Commuters in Epping are being encouraged to leave their cars behind and get on their bikes as part of Ride2Work day in October.

The event is organised by the Bicycle Network and is designed to help regular cyclists motivate themselves for their daily ride, and to encourage novice riders to think about cycling rather than driving to work.

Around 50,000 people sign up each year, and a survey conducted earlier this year of people who began riding as part of the event in 2014 found that around 60% were still cycling to work at least once a week.

Keen riders are asked to help publicise the event in their workplaces and pass on their enthusiasm to less regular bike users.

Poster printing could be used to advertise the ride and sample Posters that are available to download from the Bicycle Network’s website.

Epping-based cyclists will be able to pick up breakfast on their way to the office on the day, with local companies Bakers Delight and Apteds Orchards supplying healthy food at the train station.

Everyone who registers will also be entered into a draw to win a voucher for the Bicycle Centre in nearby South Morang.

This year’s Ride2Work day takes place on Wednesday, October 14, and breakfast will be available at Epping Train Station between 6:30am and 8:30am. Registrations can be made through the Bicycle Network’s website.
