Residents urged to cycle to work on Ride2Work Day

Croydon, Victoria residents are being urged to join cyclists from around Australia in the major National Ride2Work Day 2015 event.

Maroondah City Council is supporting the event, which is held annually in an effort to encourage more people to ride their bicycles to work and reap the health benefits cycling can produce.

The event is expected to attract more than 150,000 people Australia-wide.

Participants will be able to take advantage of a free hot breakfast with includes vegan and vegetarian options.

Council officers will be on hand to gain feedback from entrants on ideas for advancing cycling within the local community.

Those who register for Ride2Work will have a chance to win a Cell Ultimo 2.0 commuter bicycle, valued at $899.

A council spokesperson said the event was open to everyone, including novice to experienced cyclists.

He said the event would also be a great way to kick off a new routine of riding to work as a regular activity.

Poster printing has been undertaken for the event and can be downloaded from the Ride2Work website along with tips, advice and ways to gain media support.

Event organisers are hoping to attract 10,000 new riders to this year’s Ride2Work Day to be held on October 14.

Chris Carpenter of the Bicycle Network said after commuting to work on Ride2Work Day more than 50 per cent of riders continue doing so for 12 months or more.
