Those living in and around Croydon might wish to join in with the day-long celebration to mark the 59th annual Melbourne Highland Games and Celtic Festival.
This event is multicultural and inclusive and pays homage to the original games that took place during the reign of King Malcolm III in Scotland in the 11th century. There will be music, competitive dancing and pipe bands, with competitors from all over Victoria.
Heavy lifting events will also be in evidence, as well as the popular tossing the caber contest. The opening ceremony will also feature the Scottish Clan Roll Call, with about 20 clans taking part, each setting up their own tents.
This year, the Honoured Clan is Clan Grant. In attendance will be the 34th Chief of Clan Grant, The Rt Hon Lord Strathspey Sir Michael Grant.
Promotional Products such as T-Shirts, tote Bags and baseball caps are often in evidence at festival-type events like this one. These are useful as souvenirs for the people in attendance.
