Groovy tie dye workshop to take place in Croydon

Creative types in the Croydon area have the opportunity to sign up for a local tie dye workshop in September.

The tie-dye process is centuries old and involves pleating, crumpling or twisting fabric, which is then held in place by elastic bands or string. This is known as a process called resists, as parts of the fabric and the bindings may resist some of the subsequent dyeing process.

Modern tie-dye tends to favour bright colours and striking patterns, such as the peace sign and spirals, although there is no hard and fast rule.

The workshop is the brainchild of Brianna George who is the owner of Rainbow Bri Tyedye. It is designed to be fun, accessible and creative and is perfect for a communal family experience.

Participants will each have the opportunity to decorate a tee shirt, a pair of socks and a pillowcase in groovy patterns. Everything created will be unique and reflective of personal style.

Art events are often advertised within a community by poster printing and local display.

The Tie Dye Workshop is taking place at The Local Umbrella, 70 Main Street, Croydon on Friday 12th September, from 5pm until 7pm. All ages are welcome. Attendees may wish to wear old clothing or bring an apron; all creative materials are provided. Tickets cost $27.78.
