Historic accounts, many of which have been the subject of document scanning in Croydon, have revealed that the name aptly described the terrain of course silvery-white coloured grass that existed during the mid 1800s. Eventually in 1912 a suggestion to change the town’s name to Croydon by the Lacey family, who originally came to Victoria from Essex in England, which gained support and was adopted. A street in the shopping precinct still bears the Lacey family name. The production of Booklets about local history is among a wide range of services on offer by the team here at Minuteman Press.
