Croydon to celebrate multiculturalism

After the success of the inaugural Croydon Multicultural Festival last year, Croydon Mainstreet Traders Association are planning to bring the event, making it bigger and better.

The festival will be held over the course of a weekend next month and will begin with a dinner and live entertainment on the Saturday night. Attendees can enjoy dinner at one of the numerous eateries on the main street which offer cuisine from many different countries while enjoying live musical performances and traditional dance.

On the Sunday, the main street will be closed to celebrate the cultural diversity of the local area. There will be dance performances from the Hungarian Folk Dance Group, the Victorian Irish Dance Academy, VSDMA Highland dancers, the Bulgarian Dance Group, Toco Tucana Entertainment and True Culture indigenous performers on the festival stage.

The Victorian Folk Music Club will share traditional and contemporary folk songs, music, poetry and prose. The pipes and drums of the Ringwood Highland Pipe Band will parade through the street.

Local shops will provide a wide range of street food and the multicultural village will host activities for kids with several of the stage performers conducting dance workshops. To promote events such as this, organisers often use poster and banner printing to increase awareness and create eye-catching signage.

The Croydon Multicultural festival will take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th March. For more details of this free event, see the Croydon Main Street Traders Association website.
